PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION
COUPLINGS, REGULATED, AERIAL PRESSURE REFUELING
TYPE MA-2, TYPE MA-3 AND TYPE MA-4
This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the
Department of Defense.
1.
SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers regulated, refueling couplings for use by tanker
aircraft for refueling other aircraft using the probe and drogue method of aerial refueling.
1.2 Classification. The couplings are of the following types (see 6.2).
1.2.1 Types. The types of couplings are as follows:
Type MA-2: These couplings have no pressure regulation or surge suppression
capability.
Type MA-3: These couplings incorporate a single fuel pressure regulation mechanism.
Type MA-4: These couplings incorporate dual, redundant fuel pressure regulation
mechanisms.
